Tasty with…

Salads, dressings and sauces as well as on potatoes or fish. Egg dishes, crustaceans and shellfish, cheese and sandwiches can also be given an extra bite with a few sprigs of chives.

Origin

Chives come from China, where they were used as a kitchen herb, but also as an antidote. The Romans probably brought the herb to Europe via Asia. The ancient Egyptians also used chives, and Charlemagne recommended the herb as a remedy for stomach complaints, constipation, melancholy and deafness.

Healthy?

Chives are very healthy: they are full of vitamin A, B and C and minerals from sodium, potassium, calcium and phosphorus to magnesium and iron. Chives also fight bacteria, regulate high blood pressure and are good for your fluid balance. Chives also boost the digestion and blood circulation. So, plenty of reasons to eat them often!
